SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — Several agencies plan to announce the arrest of a suspect almost five years after a deadly fire at a San Marcos apartment complex. According to a news release from the City of San Marcos, someone is now in custody after the fire that killed five people at the Iconic Village apartments on July 20, 2018. City leaders are not yet sharing the suspect's name or what led authorities to this person. However, they plan to put out more details at a news conference Thursday at 10 a.m. "It brings a lot of those memories back," said Matthew C Smith, who lived at the apartment complex at the time of the fire. "Just remembering those screams during that night, and personally, sometimes I do have nightmares."While we won't know the details surrounding the arrest until Thursday morning, a fire and arson investigation instructor based in Austin says it's not uncommon for an arson case to take this long. JENNINGS, Mo. - Authorities arrested a man accused in a deadly shooting in Jennings on the Fourth of July. The shooting happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Jendale Court. The St. Louis County Police Department reports that Peter Cooper, 35, of Florissant, died in the shooting. Another woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Two lives lost: Did 911 fail during St. Louis storm? Police have not yet disclosed the suspect's identity or any potential charges. Based on preliminary findings, police believe the suspect was agitated at social activity near his home. Both victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment, though Cooper later died from his injuries. Police say the suspect reportedly barricaded himself inside his home.
