SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Luis Matos took a few slow steps toward first base, followed by a pair of quick hops. The Giants’ rookie wasn’t admiring his first career home run down the left field line so much as he was trying to will it to stay fair.″I knew it had the distance to go out,” Matos said through an interpreter. ”I just wanted to make sure that it stayed fair.”Matos’ go-ahead, two-run drive in the sixth inning provided the Giants with their biggest moment as they beat the division-leading Arizona Diamondbacks 7-6 on Saturday for their 12th win in 13 games.Joc Pederson and Blake Sabol added two hits each as San Francisco won its second straight against Arizona to pull 1 1/2 games back in the NL West.Like several others who have played well for the Giants after coming up from the minors. Matos was the team’s No. 4 prospect when he was called up June 14. He has scored at least once in seven of the 10 games he’s played in since then batting primarily in the middle of the order....Allmendinger runs away off 2nd OT restart to win Nashville Xfinity race

LEBANON, Tenn. (AP) — A.J. Allmendinger pulled away on the second overtime restart Saturday to win his second NASCAR Xfinity race this year and 17th of his career at the Nashville Superspeedway in the Tennessee Lottery 250.“I spent a lot of years not winning anything, so I need wins just to make me mentally OK every week,” Allmendinger said. “And whether it’s Cup or Xfinity, this is why you go out here, do this is, to try to win races. … So I don’t take anything for granted.”The 41-year-old Allmendinger pitted on lap 145 and used fresher tires to pass Parker Kligerman, taking the lead for good on lap 177. Chandler Smith spun out on the first restart attempt after contact with Josh Berry in Turn 2. SPRINGFIELD, N.J. (AP) — Leona Maguire is a round away from winning for the second straight week and becoming the first woman from Ireland to win a major. All that stands in the way of the 28-year-old from Cavan is a close friend from Northern Ireland — Stephanie Meadow — and 30-year-old Jenny Shin, who no longer is just happy to be playing on the LPGA Tour. She wants to win again, badly.Maguire birdied the final hole for her eighth straight round in the 60s to take a one-shot lead over fast-closing Shin and a two-stroke edge over Meadow on Saturday, heading into the final round of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.Maguire is at the top of her game. She won in Michigan last week for her second LPGA Tour victory, and her play has carried over at historic Baltusol, the site of 12 majors. She has hit 38 of 42 fairways and 48 of 54 greens in the first 54 holes, and her 2-under 69 Saturday gave her a 7-under total on a course that was tough, but gettable, after two days of intermittent ra...Bradley leads the Travelers with a 54-hole scoring record, Fowler shoots a career-best 60

CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) — Keegan Bradley shot a 6-under 64 on Saturday to break the tournament 54-hole scoring record at 21 under in the Travelers Championship, while Rickie Fowler had the second 60 of the week at TPC River Highlands. The previous three-round mark was 18 under, set by Brendan Todd on an empty course during the height of the pandemic in 2020. The four-round tournament record is 22 under, set by Kenny Perry in 2009.Bradley missed a 20-foot putt on 18 that would have tied the PGA Tour’s 54-hole mark of 188 set by Steve Stricker in the 2010 John Deere Classic and matched by Justin Thomas in the 2017 Sony Open. Bradley opened with rounds of 62 and 63.“I’ve wanted to win this tournament forever,” said Bradley, a Vermont native who also lived in Massachusetts and was playing in front of a large contingent of family and friends. “So, the feeling of wanting to push and win is something I need to fight against and just let myself go out and play.”Chez Reavie was a sho...Guatemala votará por un nuevo presidente, pero los críticos dicen que sacaron a muchos candidatos anticorrupción

At least 8 people injured after tornado strikes Wyoming coal mine

Amid the bottom of the 10th inning of a tie game at Camden Yards, Anthony Santander told Austin Hays not to worry about getting ready to hit. The inning, Santander said, would not get past Ryan McKenna. He proved prophetic when McKenna, in his first at-bat Saturday afternoon after replacing Santander in right field an inning earlier, launched a walk-off, two-run home run to give the Orioles a 6-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners.“I called it,” Santander said proudly. “He’s an animal off the bench. That’s awesome. I’m so happy for him. He’s been ready all game. He really pays attention to the game. When his opportunity comes, he’s ready, and I’m so happy he hit that homer for us right there.”A reserve outfielder typically used as a late-inning defensive replacement for Santander, McKenna’s home run came in his 13th plate appearance of June, having appeared in 15 of Baltimore’s games.
